1967 – 1972
1967 and the summer of love is in full swing in the Wyre Forest area. Frank Freeman’s Dancing Club changed their Sunday nights from soul and blue beat to progressive rock and through the next few years Frank was to put on the cream of that genre with acts like Captain Beefheart from California, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac (pictured left) and Tyrannosaurus Rex with Marc Bolan (pictured right).

Radio One DJ John Peel is a frequent visitor to Franks and the club begins to attract fans from all over the country. Meanwhile The Black Horse in Mill Street and the Wharf at Holt Fleet are not to be outdone and top groups Jethro Tull and Joe Cocker are frequent visitors.

Chicken Shack have a hit with “I’d Rather Go Blind” and Robert Plant joined Led Zeppelin and became a worldwide megastar.
Truly a golden era!
